You want to get into the field of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), but you know next to nothing about it. Are there classes that you can take so that you can become much more familiar with them?
There are few to no exclusive SEO training courses in a college, per se. They tend to be nestled into other classes or disciplines as one aspect that they may need to know. Here are some ways that people can learn this skill.
Certification Classes
There are places that offer a class that spans 35 hours or so that teach the basics of SEO. At the end of the time, you get a certificate of certification. Whether this benefits you depends on whether the places you apply to have this as a condition to be hired.
You must do research beforehand – make sure that you are paying for a course at a reputable place. Sadly, like many other things involving the Internet, there can be shady people who just try to take your money and not give you anything in return. By doing the legwork, you can save yourself some possible headaches.
Work Experience
Then again, there is something to be said for jumping into the thick of things right away. Some businesses like to hire people on the strength of their writing or research ability and teach them the ins and outs of SEO as they go along. Having all of this in front of you can be extremely helpful.
You may even find yourself paired up with a veteran of the company initially to help you get started. It’s always good to enter this with open ears since you never know what tips they will impart to you. Sooner than later, you will get the hang of it.
Self-Teaching
This is the hardest one since it can be full of pitfalls and trial and error. You can think that you are going on the right track but are focusing on the wrong keywords or phrases. Then you will have to spend more time researching.
That is not to say that it is an impossible task, but you need to be ready to be initially wrong more than you are right… and you also might need a bit of luck. Having a mentor, to begin with, can be invaluable.
SEO can be a tricky field, and you can use one or all of the above to succeed. Then you will be on your way.
